Nativity Play November 2008

This nativity has been adapted for Tamerin: she use toiletroll puppets and do all the dialogue. I have used this nativity for many years for 2nd language pre-schoolers.

Tammy
Adam and Eve were the first people. They disobeyed God and brought sin into the world. (Picture of Adam and Eve)

There were many, many people on earth after Adam and Eve. But like Adam and Eve, all the people on earth sinned –

Tammy
All did wrong things.

Yet God loved all people
Tammy
–He did not want to punish them and keep them out of heaven forever
So Father God decided to send his son Jesus to the earth to save all the people who wanted to be saved. .
Tammy
Jesus is the only one who can take way the sins of the world. (Illustrate with dirty cotton wool, white bleach drenched cotton wool and a dirty heart (coloured with tea).

Long before Jesus was born, God promised that he would send someone to save the people. He told his prophet Zechariah to tell the people
Tammy + M
Zechariah 9: 9
Rejoice greatly… for look – your King is coming. He has the power to save. He will bring peace among the nations and rule from sea to sea.

Tammy
This is the story of how that king, the saviour of the world was born.

Nazareth:

Mary was a very good girl who lived in Nazareth. She loved God very much. One day God sent his Angel to speak to Mary. Mary got a very big fright. But the Angel said

Tammy (Angel):

Don’t be afraid Mary. God thinks you are special. You are going to have a Baby boy and you must call Him Jesus.

Mary was very surprised when she heard this news and she said

How can this be?
The Angel said:

God can let anything happen.

Mary was now very happy and excited. She loved God and she wanted to please Him. She said

Mary
Praise the Lord! I want to do what God wants me to do.
Then the Angel went back to heaven

Joseph was very unhappy when he heard the news. He thought he would go away in the night, but while he was dreaming, the angel of the Lord appeared to him and said:

Angel 2

Joseph, God is the father of Mary’s child. She will have a baby boy and you must call him Jesus. You must marry Mary

The angel of the Lord went back to heaven. Joseph was satisfied. He understood that Mary was going to have God’s child. When he woke up, he did what the Angel of the Lord had told him to do. He decided to marry Mary.
Joseph
Mary will you marry me?
Mary
Yes, Joseph

Mary and Joseph were very happy together. Mary was going to have God’s baby and they were just waiting for the day when the baby would be born.
But one day they got some very bad news: The king wanted to know how many people there were in the country, so everyone had to return to the town where they were born.

Joseph
Mary the king wants to count us. So we must go to Bethlehem because that is where I come from. Please pack our things.

Mary and Joseph had to walk very far because there were no cars in those days.
O Come, All Ye Faithful O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant,Come ye, O come ye, to Bethlehem.Come and behold Him, born the King of angels;RefrainO come, let us adore Him,O come, let us adore Him,O come, let us adore Him,Christ the Lord.

While they were in Bethlehem the time came for Mary’s baby to be born. There was no room for them in the inn, so they had to sleep in a stable.

Mary wrapped the little baby in cloths and then she put him in the manger to sleep.
Mary
Poor Jesus. He is the king of all kings and yet he has to sleep in this dirty old manger!

Away in a Manger
Away in a manger, no crib for his bed,
the little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head.
The stars in the bright sky looked down where he lay,
The little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay.

The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes,
but little Lord Jesus no crying he makes.
I love thee, Lord Jesus! Look down from the sky,
And stay by my side until morning is nigh.

That night some shepherds were in the fields outside the village, guarding their flocks of sheep. They had to watch that nothing happened to their sheep.

Shepherds
Brr, it’s cold. Let’s make a fire. What’s that funny light?

Suddenly an angel appeared and the glory of the Lord shone around them. The shepherds got a big fright, but the angel said:

Angel
Don’t be afraid! I bring you very good news. Tonight in Bethlehem, the Saviour was born, Jesus Christ. This is the sign: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths, lying in a manger.

Suddenly a great army of heaven’s angels appeared with the angel, singing praises to God:

Joy to the World
Joy to the world! the Lord is come;
Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare Him room,
and heaven and nature sing,
and heaven and nature sing,
and heaven, and heaven and nature sing.

Then the angels went back to heaven.
The shepherds said to one another:

Shepherd
Let’s go and see this wonderful thing that the Lord has told us about.

The shepherds found Mary and Joseph and the baby lying in the manger. They told Mary what the Angel had told them about Jesus and Mary told the shepherds what the angel had told her.
Shepherd
The angel told us we would find a baby wrapped in cloths, lying in a manger.
Mary
And the angel told me that I was going to have God’s son and that I must call Him Jesus.

The shepherds then went to tell everyone what had happened and what the angel had told them about this child.

Shepherds
Jesus is born. God is with us. He loves us.

Mary thought to herself about her very special baby.

At the time Jesus was born, God sent a special star to the heaven. Very clever people who knew all about the stars saw this new star and they said:

Wise man
Look at that star. That means a king is born.

The star moved and they followed the star for a long way – all the way to Bethlehem where it stopped and then the wise men went into the house. They knew the baby was a king, so the knelt down in front of Him and prayed to him. Then they opened their bags and took out presents they had brought for the baby. They gave the presents to Mary. These presents were not ordinary baby presents like dummies and rattles, but presents that are fit for a king.

Wise men:
I brought him gold, because He is a king.

I brought him incense, because He is a God. If you burn the incense, the air will smell lovely.

And I brought Him very special perfume. It is called myrrh.

Miekie asks and Tammy answers:
Myrrh is something you rub on someone’s body when he is dead. Was Jesus going to die?
Yes! Jesus later died on the cross.
Is he dead?
No. He rose from the grave and went up into heaven.
What is He doing there?
He is preparing space for us. One day He will come back and fetch all His children.
How do you become God’s child?
You become His child
1. if you believe in Jesus If you believe that He loves you and saved you,
2. if you confess your sins and if you are sorry that you have sinned.
3. and if you become a new person through the Holy Spirit.
What will happen when Jesus comes back?
The Bible tells us in Romans 14 verse 10:
We will all stand before God to be judged by Him:
As I live, says the Lord: every knee will bow before Me
and every tongue will say that I am God.

Tammy: Let us pray:
Dear Lord Jesus
Thank you for coming to the earth to be born as a baby.
Thank you that you told us how to be your disciples.
Thank you that you saved us by dying on the cross.
We want to confess our sins.
Please forgive us.
Thank you for this year
Thank you for helping me to understand my school work.
Thank you for my Mommy and Daddy for letting me do homeschool.
I love you Jesus, you are wonderful!
Amen

One Minute Reads - November

My Secret Unicorn - Dreams Come True by Linda Chapman (Puffin Books, 2002)

(P42) They swooped down on Shadow’s paddock at Goose Creek Farm. “There he is!” Lauren said, spotting the dark shape of Mel’s dapple-grey pony.

Twilight landed with a soft whicker just behind him. Shadow swung round with an alarmed snort. (P43) Twilight whinnied and Lauren saw Shadow relax. He whinnied back as if her was talking to Twilight.
“What’s he saying?” Lauren asked Twilight.
“That he knew I was a unicorn,” Twilight said. “And he would like to know why we’ve come.”
Lauren didn’t want to waste any time.
“Ask him why he won’t jump,” she said to Twilight.
“ He understands you,” Twilight told her as Shadow whinnied in reply. Twilight listened to the dapple-grey pony for a few moment. “He’s scared,” he told Lauren. “He says that when he was a foal, he was jumping over a tree trunk with (p44) the other foals in his field and he banged his legs really hard. Ever since then, he’s been afraid of jumping. He hates making Mel upset but he just can’t do it.”

“Have you got any magical powers that could help him not to feel so scared, Twilight?” Lauren asked.

“I don’t know,” Twilight replied doubtfully. “I know I’ve got some magical powers, but I’m not sure what they are. I guess I might be able to help, but I don’t know how.”

Lauren felt disappointed. She’s been hoping that Twilight would be able to do some magic and make everything OK. She thought hard. If they couldn’t use Twilight’s powers to help Shadow then (p45) maybe she could come up with a more practical solution. “If I put the poles from the jumps on the ground, do you think you might be able to walk over them?” she asked Shadow.
